Here is a great guest post by Texas family lawyer Scott Morgan on how to find the right lawyer for your case:

Three Keys to Finding the Best Attorney for Your Case

If you find yourself in a  situation that you consider important enough to hire a lawyer over, then you should make sure that the lawyer you hire is the best possible attorney for your case. Here are three of the biggest keys to finding the best attorney for your case.

Hire a Lawyer with a Great Deal of Experience in That Area of Law

We live in a world of great specialization. You would never consider going to a psychiatrist if you had a torn ACL, right?  Well why would you consider going to a lawyer who was not exclusively focused on a particular area of law that you needed help with? It doesn't make sense. While some litigators will say that they can try any kind of case, the reality is that a lawyer who doesn't specialize in a particular field will be at a disadvantage to those lawyers who do.

Check out the Lawyer’s Reviews

The online world today has made it relatively easy to find out what past clients have to say about a particular lawyer. Take a look at these reviews and see if you can get a feel for whether this is a lawyer who would do a good job on your case and be someone you were comfortable working with. I should point out that even the best lawyers will have one or two negative reviews (you can't make everyone happy all the time), that is to be expected. But if the reviews are consistently negative this is a lawyer you should definitely avoid.

Listen to Your Gut

There are lots of objective criteria that one could use in evaluating a lawyer. But a completely subjective criteria that you should pay lots of attention to are your instincts. If your gut tells you that you simply dislike the attorney or for some reason he or she makes you feel uncomfortable, then no matter how good the credentials and no matter how good the reviews, you should avoid this lawyer and keep looking.

When you hire a lawyer to handle a legal matter for you often will be working closely with that lawyer. You don't want that person to be someone that you dread calling or meeting with. Also your instincts will often pick up on subtle issues that you aren't even conscious of. But even if you can't put your finger on why you don't feel right about someone you should still listen to that voice. It will often be proven right in the end.
