Wrong-way crash on Cranberry Hwy in Wareham kills motorcyclist

WAREHAM, MA – A 49-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday in a wrong-way crash along the highway in south-central Plymouth County, reports Boston News 25.

The fatal collision occurred at the start of the late afternoon rush hour on the Cranberry Highway, or MA-28, between Weaver Street and Crest Drive in Wareham. This is about an hour southeast of Boston.

Wareham Police say that the operator of a northbound motorcycle lost control of his bike, entered the southbound side of the highway, and collided head-on with a white Mercedes GLC300.

The wrong-way biker, identified as Matthew Burns of South Attleboro, died at the scene of the crash.

Authorities say that one other motorcyclist also sustained injuries in the accident. The circumstances of that biker’s involvement in the crash remain unclear.

The investigation is ongoing.
