Vehicle hits, kills juvenile girl on Newland St in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Emergency crews in Springfield responded to a fatal auto-pedestrian crash in the the Brightwood area on Monday evening, reports WWLP 22.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. along Newland Street, which is just east of the Connecticut River and south of Kennefick Park.

Police haven’t yet disclosed the circumstances of the collision, but they say the victim was a female child. They’ve not named the child or released her age to the public.

Authorities say the girl died after arriving at Baystate Medical Center.

There’s no word yet regarding the driver involved in the wreck. At this time, officials are not characterizing the incident as a hit-and-run crash.
