State trooper injured in hit-and-run on I-90 in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, MA – A Massachusetts state trooper sustained injuries Tuesday when a vehicle struck him along the interstate in central Hampden County.

According to Boston News 25, the incident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. along I-90 westbound near exit 51 in the city of Chicopee. This is about 5 miles northwest of Springfield and 90 miles southwest of Boston.

Police say the trooper was conducting a traffic stop along the intersection when a vehicle hit him and fled the scene.

Medics transported the trooper to an area hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Authorities located and arrested the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle, identifying her as 23-year-old Naisha Rodriguez of Springfield.

Charges against Rodriguez include leaving the scene, DUI, and misleading a police investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
