Police investigate fatal crash on New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge

NEW BEDFORD, MA – A two-vehicle collision along the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge killed one person and injured another late Wednesday morning.

According to NBC 10 Boston, the accident occurred around 11 a.m. between Fish Island and Popes Island on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge, or Route 6. This is approximately sixty miles southeast of Boston.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a 2001 Mazda Miata lost control of the vehicle and collided with a 2015 Chevy Silverado. Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage, indicating that a head-on crash may have taken place.

Medics transported the driver of the Miata to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. Authorities identified the victim as 41-year-old Gregory Crook McGuire.

The driver of the pickup truck went to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

Officials closed the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge for over five hours while crews attended to the victims, gathered evidence, and worked to clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
