Multi-vehicle collision in south Reading kills 1, injures 2

READING, MA – One person died, and two people sustained injuries Friday night following a four-vehicle crash at a busy Reading intersection, reports WHDH 7 News Boston.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Hopkins Street, which is north of Yankee Division Highway and northwest of Bear Hill Golf Club.

Police say that the driver of a southbound Volvo failed to stop for a red light, causing a chain-reaction collision involving three additional vehicles. The Volvo struck a Ford Fusion, which then crashed into both a Toyota Rav4 and an Audi Q7.

Authorities pronounced the driver of the Fusion deceased at the scene of the crash. They’ve not yet released the name of the victim to the public.

Medics transported the driver that caused the crash and a passenger from the Rav4 to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

It’s unclear if the driver of the Volvo will face charges in connection to the wreck.

A full investigation is underway. Anyone with information or tips to share can contact the Reading Police Department.
