EAST BROOKFIELD, MA – A driver was badly hurt Friday night in a single-vehicle collision in southwest Worcester County, reports NBC 10 Boston.
The accident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. along West Sturbridge Road near Stone Road in East Brookfield, which is about 65 miles southwest of Boston.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree, and caught fire.
Crews worked to extricate the driver, who was then airlifted to UMass Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident likely caused delays along West Sturbridge Road while emergency teams attended to the victim and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
