LUNENBURG, MA – Emergency teams responded to a wrong-way collision involving a school bus in Worcester County on Tuesday morning, reports WCVB 5.
The two-vehicle crash occurred sometime before 10 a.m. on Lancaster Avenue near Gibson Street in the city of Lunenburg. This is about 50 miles northwest of Boston.
Police say that a sedan collided head-on with a school bus carrying 20 passengers when the operator of the sedan looked at his phone while driving and entered oncoming traffic.
No physical injuries have been reported in connection to the crash thus far.
Both the sedan and the school bus sustained significant front-end damage in the collision, and airbags were deployed.
According to authorities, the 18-year-old driver of the sedan will face criminal charges.
Motorists likely encountered delays along Lancaster Avenue in the area of the wreck while emergency teams worked at the scene.
