SALEM, MA – A vehicle struck and injured three children along a major roadway in south-central Essex County early Monday evening.
According to Boston 25 News, emergency crews responded to a pedestrian crash along Congress Street in Salem around 5 p.m. This is around 22 miles northeast of Boston.
Police say that a 65-year-old driver struck three kids of ages 9, 10, and 11 outside of a designated crosswalk. Officials haven’t yet shared any additional details regarding the cause of the accident.
Medics airlifted the 10-year-old to an area hospital with critical injuries.
It’s unclear if the other two children required hospitalization.
The driver involved in the crash stopped to render aid and to speak with police.
A full investigation is underway.
