NEWBURY, MA – Two women sustained injuries Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision at a busy intersection in northeast Essex County, reports Boston 25 News.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to Boston Road and Route 1, or Newburyport Turnpike, in the city of Newbury, which is approximately 37 miles southwest of Boston.
Police say that a southbound BMW X5 and an eastbound Toyota Prius collided when the driver of the Prius failed to yield right of way.
The driver of the Prius became entrapped in the collision and required extrication.
Medics transported both drivers to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
The accident likely caused delays in the area of Route 1 and Boston Road while crews assisted the victims and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
