1 killed, 1 charged in crash caused by drunk driver in Marblehead

MARBLEHEAD, MA – An eighth-grade girl sustained fatal injuries Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle collision in south Essex County, reports WCVB 5.

Around 7:30 a.m., emergency teams responded to Atlantic Avenue between Clifton Heights Lane and Garden Road in the city of Marblehead, which is about 17 miles northeast of Boston.

Police say that the 16-year-old driver was intoxicated when he lost control of his car, left the roadway, and crashed into a stone wall along Atlantic.

The 13-year-old passenger in the car succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Medics transported the teen driver to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity. He will face OUI charges upon release.
