NYE hit-and-run crash on Acushnet Ave in New Bedford kills 1

NEW BEDFORD, MA – A 33-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries on New Year’s Eve when a vehicle struck her at an intersection in southeast Bristol County.

According to WCVB 5, the accident happened just after midnight along Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford, which is around 58 miles southeast of Boston.

Police say that Nicolassa Ventura Colaj was attempting to cross Acushnet when the vehicle hit her. Colaj  died after transport to an area hospital.

Authorities arrested the 16-year-old driver involved in the crash on multiple charges, including leaving the scene and motor vehicle homicide.

A full investigation is underway.
