HARWICH, MA – Two people were hurt Wednesday in an accident involving a cyclist and a pedestrian in southeast Barnstable County, reports Cape Cod Times.
Just after 10:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a crash on the Cape Cod Rail Trail near 522 Pleasant Lake Avenue in Harwich. This is between Long Pond and Seymour Pond and about 82 miles southeast of Boston.
Police say that both a cyclist and a pedestrian were travelling near mile 5.6 on the trail when the bike hit the pedestrian.
Both the cyclist and the pedestrian sustained injuries; one of them required extrication for life-threatening injuries. Medics airlifted the latter victim to a hospital in Boston, while the other victim went by ground ambulance to a hospital on Cape Cod.
There’s no word yet regarding the cause of the collision.
A full investigation is underway.
