3 injured, 1 arrested in rear-end collision on Bourne Bridge

BOURNE, MA – Three people were hurt, and another faced charges in connection to a major crash that happened Friday night in northwest Barnstable County.

According to Boston 25 News, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Bourne Bridge, or MA-128, around 9:30 p.m. Bourne is about 57 miles southeast of Boston on Cape Cod.

Police say that the 37-year-old driver of a Ford F-250 was intoxicated when his vehicle rear-ended an SUV carrying three people on the bridge.

Medics transported all three occupants of the SUV to an area hospital with unspecified injuries. At least one of the victims was marked as a trauma alert.

The Bourne Bridge remained closed until shortly after 10:30 p.m. while crews worked at the scene.

Authorities arrested the driver of the pickup truck, identified as Garret Mullen of Maine, on multiple charges, including OUI, carrying a gun and ammunition without the appropriate license and identification, possession of an open container in the car, and speeding.

The investigation is ongoing.
