Ejection crash on I-495 in Chelmsford kills 1, injures 1

CHELMSFORD, MA – A man died, and a woman went to the hospital Friday following an ejection crash along the interstate in northeast Middlesex County, reports WCVB 5.

The single-vehicle collision occurred in the morning on the northbound side of I-495 in the city of Chelmsford. Authorities have not yet provided a mile marker or cross street for the crash. Chelmsford is about 33 miles northwest of Boston.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a male driver lost control of his vehicle on I-495 and hit the guardrail, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Following extrication efforts, authorities pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. They’ve not yet released his identity to the public.

A female passenger, identified as the driver’s sister, was ejected during the accident and required hospitalization for serious injuries.

The investigation thus far indicates that the driver was returning home after travelling to Amherst to pick his sister up from the University of Massachusetts.

The investigation is ongoing.
