BOSTON, MA – A 5-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries Monday afternoon when a school bus struck him along a major roadway in southwest Boston, reports WCVB 5.
The accident shortly before 2:45 p.m. on Washington Street near Glenwood Avenue, which is just northeast of Moynihan Playground in Hyde Park.
Police say the victim, a kindergartener at Up Academy in Dorchester, had just exited the school bus with his older cousin when he was hit.
The child died after transport to an area hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck.
Officials say that an unknown number of students on the bus also required hospitalization for injuries of unknown severity.
The bus driver stopped to render aid and speak with authorities. No charges have been announced thus far.
A full investigation is underway.
