Juvenile cyclist struck, hurt at Main and Academy in Bourne

BOURNE, MA – A cyclist went to a trauma center Thursday afternoon after a vehicle struck them at a busy intersection in northwest Barnstable County, reports Patch.

Emergency teams reported to the area of Main Street and Academy Drive in Bourne shortly before 1 p.m. to assist with an injury crash. Bourne is about an hour southeast of Boston.

Police say that a Massachusetts Maritime van hit a juvenile cyclist in the roadway. It’s unclear if the cyclist was using a designated crosswalk or bike lane when the wreck occurred.

Medics transported the juvenile to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.

The driver of the van stopped to render aid and speak with authorities. They did not sustain injuries in the collision.

A full investigation is underway.
