Police Officer fatally struck on Rte 146 in SE Worcester County

UXBRIDGE, MA – A 43-year-old police officer was fatally struck early Wednesday along the highway in southeast Worcester County.

According to 10 WJAR, the accident happened after midnight on Route 146 in the city of Uxbridge, approximately 46 miles southwest of Boston.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Officer Stephen LaPorta was struck while stopped along the highway, assisting a motorist with a disabled vehicle.

LaPorta died at the scene of the accident.

Officials have not yet provided any further details regarding the driver involved in the crash, an no charges have been announced thus far.

The investigation is ongoing.
