Shortly after 4 p.m., emergency teams received word of a major accident involving three vehicles at Route 1, or the Newburyport Turnpike, and Pond Street in Newburyport. This is about 38 miles northeast of Boston.
It’s not yet clear what caused a Toyota 4Runner, a Toyota Corolla, and a 2022 Tesla Model 3 to collide. Police say the driver of the Tesla required extrication with the jaws of life.
Medics ultimately transported two people to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
Drivers encountered delays along Route 1 in the area of the crash while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
