What Is A Personal Injury?

What Is A Personal Injury?
Almost everyone has heard the term “personal injury” before, and many know what it means. But as a personal injury lawyer in Boston, I have discovered that many people do not know what it means. A personal injury can be either a physical or mental injury.
Some examples of physical injuries are soft tissue injuries, broken bones, torn meniscus in the knee, ankle injuries, shoulder injuries, leg injuries, and even wrongful death.
Mental injuries are less concrete than physical injuries. These can include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, or other psychological or emotional harm brought on by the accident.
What Causes Personal Injuries?
These injuries are caused by accidents due to negligence. Many are caused by car accidents in Boston, or other causes such as construction accidents, or any other type of accident caused due to negligence.
What Compensation Is Available?
Whomever causes injuries to someone else likely has insurance to cover the losses. Typically it is car insurance or general liability insurance that is available to the victims of a personal injury accident.
Compensation that can be pursued can be for payment of medical bills, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, compensation for scarring, and for any other damages that arose from the accident.
Is Compensation Taxable?
No. Personal injury settlements are for the most part not considered income. They therefore are not taxed on either the federal or state level.
