Around 1:30 p.m., crews reported to the tracks that intersect Summer Street near the Nantasket Junction in the city of Hingham. This is about 16 miles southeast of Boston.
Police say that the teen driver drove his dark-colored Tesla around the activated gates at the railroad crossing and crashed into a commuter train.
Medics transported the unidentified driver to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
No other injuries have been reported in connection to the accident.
The crash temporarily halted afternoon train service along the Greenbush Line while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
