LOWELL, MA – A woman died last Thursday night when a vehicle struck her along a major roadway in northeast Middlesex County, reports NBC 10 Boston.
The pedestrian accident occurred just before midnight on Chelmsford Street between Newell Street and Albert Street in the city of Lowell, which is approximately 31 miles northwest of Boston.
Police say that the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene. The driver did not stop to render aid or to speak with officials.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, who succumbed to her injuries not long after transport to an area hospital.
The vehicle involved in the crash has been located, but it’s unclear if police have arrested a suspect.
